Boom in the Middle of the Night

Those still up at midnight on Saturday, September 5 watched as the clock clicked off on their microwave, their computer shut down, the tv screen went blank just at the best part of their movie, and all their lights suddenly disappeared, leaving them in total darkness.  Others didn’t discover the power outage until the next morning when they started to prepare breakfast and discovered their refrigerator temperature had dropped to 42 degrees.

Dominion Power sent out a notification to an area surrounding N. Albemarle Street at 12:15 a.m. where a tree had split off and taken down a power line. Yellow warning tape cordons off where the tree had fallen just at the edge Jamestown Elementary School grounds.

A few hours later power was restored to other areas of Arlington that had suffered wind damage. Although crews were quick to the spot on Albemarle, the work was extensive and power didn’t get restored until 18 hours later.
