A steady line of voters trailed down the hall at Madison Community Center on
Saturday, April 18, the last day for early voting. Madison Center was one of the
three county-wide voting sites and by 2 pm, 900 voters had cast a ballot on the
question.
“Should the constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to
temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming
elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all
redistricting after the 2030 census.”
The yes side of the issue argued “Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of
our democracy but right now they are under attack from Donald Trump. A vote yes
levels the playing field in the midterms.”
The no side argued “Don’t let crooked politicians end fair and competitive
elections. Richmond politicians want to rig the game. It is a power grab that lets
politicians pick their voters.”
