Arlington: Chef Introduces New Lineup of Nats-inspired Ice Creams

Arlington Chef Katie Gilman, owner of Taste - Inventive Food by Katie Gilman - a carry-out restaurant and catering business, has created a lineup of Nats-inspired ice creams as part of her concept of “perfect scoops” of ice cream.

Chef Katie, 26, a Nationals fan, created her first Nats-inspired ice cream, “Get Your Red On,” red velvet ice cream with white chocolate chips, last year. “During spring training this year, I was inspired to expand this season’s ice cream treats,” said Chef Katie. Now available at Taste: “4-6-3 Chocolate Chip,” vanilla ice cream with semi-sweet and white chocolate chips; “34’s Hair on Fire,” a spicy Mexican chocolate ice cream; “Charlie and Dave’s Chocolate and Dulce,” chocolate ice cream with a swirl of caramel; “IBB,” vanilla buttermilk bourbon ; and “Bangzoom Mr. Walkoff,” vanilla ice cream with bursts of mini M&Ms. The lineup will also include “Rocky Road Trip,” “Scherzer’s Blueberry Chocolate Chip Eyes Cream” and others, as the season progresses.

This is not the first time Chef Katie has used the Nationals as inspiration: while in culinary school, she created a three-tiered wedding cake featuring the Nationals’ curly W logo, baseballs, cherry blossoms and for the top, the Nats’ mascot Skreech, as the groom, and his eagle bride, sculpted out of fondant.

Taste offers dinners to go, appetizers, desserts and catering. Each week the menu changes and it always includes vegetarian, gluten-free and child-friendly options. Taste is located at 6017 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. Store hours are Tuesday-Friday, 4-8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon-4 p.m.
